Launch of Research Project on 3D printing of personalised medicine
A new research project has been launched at ATU Sligo to develop a technology for 3D printing of personalised medicines and drug-eluting implants at the point of care – such as in hospitals and pharmacies. The PROCEED 3D (Process Control for Extrusion-based 3D-printing of Personalised Medicine) research is led by Dr Marion McAfee at ATU Sligo (PMTC member) with PMTC co-leads Dr Rabah Mouras and Prof Gavin Walker at the University of Limerick. The project is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and involves collaboration with clinicians at Sligo University Hospital and industrial partners, Innopharma.
The total award is €923,297.67 for four years and aims to address the challenges in the manufacturing of next-generation 3D-printed personalised medicines, bioresorbable implants and drug delivery devices.
