Advanced Nano Technologies
Advanced Nano Technologies Ltd. is an early stage company which has developed a new portable solution for Raman spectroscopic measurements.

Raman spectroscopic measurements, which are commonly used in chemistry to provide a structural fingerprint by which molecules can be identified. The new tool developed called the “Flipper” is designed to be a lightweight portable Raman spectroscope.
Advanced Nano Technologies Ltd is commercialising the research outcomes and intellectual property arising from the work of Dr. Norman McMillan and co-workers in the field of drop science.
Our Ants are developing innovative hardware and software for micro- and nano-spectroscopy, specialising in small-volume sample analysis. Our first products, the Flipper Raman spectrometer and the Raman Mine software are undergoing applications studies by international research groups.

Dr Norman McMillan
Recently retired early as Senior Lecturer (Institute of Technology, Carlow) to concentrate on innovation in the company, Mac has pioneered technology in several areas; developing the first ever accurate physics computer simulation products with patented keyboard overlays and interface systems precursors to the Wii; developed the first ever fully automatic robotic crystal analysers for small sugar crystals and diamond powder; invented, developed and patented the new science of tensiography and nanodrop ‘nanospectroscopy’ which was the first quoted prior art by Charles Robertson for the small volume spectroscopy that was central to establishing the that led to the ‘NanoDrop suite’ of laboratory instruments owned today by Thermo Corporation.
Mac worked on various commercial technologies and developments over the last 25 years being recognised as father of tensiography and a pioneer of nanospectroscopy. His role in the company is to continuously bring new innovative science techniques and methods to the project table and to ensure that we keep up to date with the latest technologies been developed in the research area.
Dr. McMillan is leading the commercialization of a number of ANT nanospectroscopy technologies and with his many years of experience in the industry, they have allowed him to develop a vast international network of friends and business contacts in all areas of industry and research.
He has a catalogue of published papers on the many years of research and has been the lead supervised 10 PhD including Institute of Technology, and one in Dublin Institute of Technology, one in Kingston University and co-supervised a number of PhD and Master students.
