Pharmaceutical Plant Cleaning Infrastructure
Pharmaceutical Plant Cleaning is one of the cornerstones of the research agenda currently taking place within the PMTC and is lead by Dr. Rabah Mouros, supported by a team of experienced and highly skilled researchers.
Through PMTC, the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector has access to some of the most up-to-date plant cleaning research equipment which facilitates leading edge research and innovation in the domain of pharmaceutical plant cleaning and validation.
Some of the infrastructure within PMTC includes:
- Horiba LabRAM HR Evolution Raman
- Raman imaging (mapping) for Identification and spatial distribution of pharmaceuticals
- Multieye NIR probes
- FTIR
- Fluorescence
- UV-VIS spectroscopy
- Fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy
- COSMO - RS

Lab Scale Cleaning facility:
PMTC cleaning facility (under development) is a cutting-edge cleaning in place (CIP) skid equipped with multiple process analytical (PAT) tools and sensors for cleaning monitoring and verification. The facility planned with the cleaning skid at PMTC will help optimising and speeding up the cleaning process and enable the combination of PAT and CIP providing enormous value to Pharma sites by reducing time and resources tied up in cleaning whilst also increasing manufacturing capacity. The new facility will allow rapid and seamless knowledge transfer from PMTC to industry and vice versa. Creating such a facility for Irish Pharmaceutical Manufacturing sites will afford them a huge opportunity to attract new products and retain trust globally for both productivity and quality, attributes which have sustained the industry to date.
PMTC offers a range of research options and ways to access our capabilities depending on member company or client needs. For more information and related enquiries please contact pmtc@ul.ie
